D.I.Y. Altered T-Shirts

Last night, 7 teens joined me at the library to find out how to use simple supplies like scissors and safety pins to transform old T-shirts into customized designs, like this one (made by me):

Since I myself am new to the art of altering clothing (specifically t-shirts), I relied on the following book resources:

 

In addition to making fabulous new t-shirts, teens in the program also tried to answer some ‘famous t-shirt’ trivia (e.g. Q: Which celebrity wore a shirt with an arrow pointing to her belly and the slogan, “I have the Golden Ticket”? A: Britney Spears) and to learn how to fold a t-shirt in two seconds, like in these videos:

Paper Fan Favours

I made these paper fans to thank the teen volunteers who worked with me over the summer:

The fans are easy to make, require few supplies, and are a little more special (I think) than a plain notecard.
